Social media is the biggest share holder of advertisement industry. SMM(Social media marketing) took over television marketing industry recently. Social media is basically a platform where people meet other people and form their network. SMM is a term used for marketing done via social networking channels. SMM got huge boost when Face book and twitter, giants of Social media today, evolved. Although SMM is the biggest contributor of advertisement industry, this field is relatively new. Majority still doesn't understand the capabilities of SMM. Most people use SMM in wrong manner because they don’t evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of SMM before hand.

SMM has its own risks and disadvantages. If a good reputation can lift you sky high then surely it can even push you back to starting point. You need lots of time to manage anything coming to and fro the network. Depending on your business, you may need a full time administrator for your social networks. For instance, someone comments on your post and you may not want his comment but you were late in removing it so harm has been done. You need to learn, how to communicate effectively with customers.

SMM is relatively a new field and most people are still innovating but it is mature enough that almost every brand or business is advertising through SMM. There are various SMM tools in market which help overcoming different problems. SMM is essential whether or not you have opted for other advertisement sources.
